The best way for mine is to travel NZ by campervan, you don't miss a thing and although you say driving is hard, it is the best bit. There aren't many cars on the road so it makes it easy to get around. When booking make sure you use a site that compares the best deals, I used www.travelsavernz.com it was by far the cheapest for motorhome and car hire. Thanks

Re: The long-term travel rut

Awh. No don't feel bad I think all long term travelers go through similar emotions at some point on their trip. I've thought the same at various points of my travels. Is this pointless if I'm a bit tired of traveling? The thing is, for me at least, I know after about a week at home I'll be wishing I was on the road again. So I just spend some time talking with friends and family and I usually feel better. Hope you get over your travel rut soon!

Re: Hump day photo: Pancake Rocks

Haha aren't they all stunning. I will definitely look into them. Yea I was quite nervous abut Aerosvit. Honestly, a terrible flight doesn't bother me too much, it's the gamble on whether or not the airline will go under and I'll lose all my money! But I would prefer a flight with entertainment!

Re: What I’m thinking Friday, 11 May

Haha that sounds like a random, but pretty sweet flight. Really weird that they only take AMEX.

Re: What I’m thinking Friday, 11 May

Haha. If he's still going at 95, I guess you're never too old! I'm heading over to yours to read that post though! Thanks very much. What are your future travel plans? How much longer do you have in Oz?

Re: What I’m thinking Friday, 11 May

I just wrote a post about whether or not you get too old to backpack, then I came over and saw your mention of Keith Wright. Funny! Looking forward to seeing how your travels come together!

Re: What I’m thinking Friday, 11 May

I flew on Kuwait Airways from JFK to LHR (and continuing on to the middle east and then on to India) back in 2002 and they were about $400 less then anyone else. They didn't accept MC/Visa, only Amex (so weird), so Expedia had to "pay" for me and I paid them. I was one of the few white people on board, and I don't know if it was a thing or not, but NO ONE wanted to sit on the seats next to the windows, only in the middle of the plane, so I got all three seats to myself outbound. And even on the return, I originally had all three to myself again, but then someone sat on the aisle, still leaving the middle empty (fine with me). A clusterfuck getting on the plane (no one understood the announcement of "Rows 15 to 20 (etc..) only please") but other then those weird quarks, it was fine!

Good luck!!

Re: What I’m thinking Friday, 11 May

Ask Aaron of Aaron's Worldwide Adventures about Aerosvit - he gave them an absolutely scathing review. Maybe best to look up going with Asiana via Incheon - they're usually $400-500, possibly worth it...

Re: Hump day photo: Pancake Rocks

That's a really cool rock formation. I have begun to envy those who have everyday routines and have solid relationships. I know this is just a phase and that I will get though it but at the moment I feel that the places that I am visiting I am missing out on because I am not truly enjoying them. I am stuck in a strange place because everyone says how envious they are of my travels but at the same time I am envious of their daily routine . I am glad you posted this because just knowing that someone went though the same thing is very helpful.

Re: 6 ways to travel New Zealand: Pros and Cons

It is!!! I agree that having a car is a great way to travel here. I didn't say you need travel insurance. You are right in that people do not have to have it here. I just suggested people consider getting it to cover themselves. We bought third party insurance and it was not a lot of money for the year. Thanks for commenting.

Re: 6 ways to travel New Zealand: Pros and Cons

Although in many countries I'm a huge fan of public transport, in my own, New Zealand, i'd say you need your own vehicle to see the real countryside.

I'm not sure why you think you only need travel insurance with a vehicle? There is actually no compulsory insurance on vehicles at all in NZ, though I'd recommend third party - which is very, very cheap. All visitors are covered by our no-fault accident cover, so I'm sure many people do visit without travel insurance.

Re: 6 ways to travel New Zealand: Pros and Cons

I really like how you have presented this piece! And of course, thanks so much for linking to me (and for choosing a relatively flattering photo of me lol!) New Zealand is great because no matter which way you choose, you will have an amazing time... it really has so much to offer. The only real mistake you can make when deciding how to travel New Zealand, is not budgeting yourself enough TIME

Re: 6 ways to travel New Zealand: Pros and Cons

GREAT roundup!
